LA CORNÉE VIVE (LVC)
(The Living Cornea)
LVC is a non-governmental organization in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, dedicated to providing support, guidance, education, and professional training for children whose parents have visual impairments, which often leads to ongoing poverty and neglect. Our programs aim to enhance the well-being of these children through education, psychological and social support, healthcare, extracurricular activities, and parental education.
VISION
The guiding principle of La Cornée Vive is clear: we strive for children of visually impaired parents to lead fulfilling social lives and become a source of pride for their families. Our role is to act as a lens, bringing rays of light into lives overshadowed by blindness.
FOCUS AREAS
EDUCATIONAL
We provide schooling and support for the children of blind parents to ensure their education. This includes collaboration with teachers, enrollment in remedial learning programs when necessary, introduction to computing, and engaging, creative activities.
PSYCHOLOGICAL
We offer community and individual counseling for children and parents affected by blindness and poverty.
SOCIAL
Our programs educate children and parents on the principles of community living and hygiene practices.
HEALTHCARE
We provide screening and treatment for vision-related diseases and other medical needs for children and their parents.
EXTRACURRICULAR
We engage children in various sports, cultural, and recreational activities, such as theater, singing, dancing, field trips, birthday celebrations, Christmas events, camps, and games.
PARENTAL GUIDANCE
We listen to and engage with parents to provide social and emotional support.
